How Much Does It Cost to Professionally Clean a Mattress?
As a ballpark, a queen mattress cleaned on one side is usually around $115–$120 before tax. A king with yellow marks and an odour concern, also one side, lands closer to $160 before tax. Those are our own estimates for typical jobs — not an Ottawa market average, and not a guaranteed price. The firm number comes in a written quote after we see photos of the actual mattress.
A $100 minimum order applies before tax, so a single small job sometimes makes more sense combined with another piece — a second mattress, a sofa or a carpeted room.
What Changes the Price?
- Size. A twin takes less time and product than a king.
- One side or both. Cleaning both sides roughly doubles the work.
- Condition. General freshening is simpler than heavy yellowing, set stains or an odour that needs extra treatment.
- Construction. A thick pillow-top or a cover that needs gentler handling slows the work down.
- Access. A stripped mattress in a clear room is quicker to start on than one buried under bedding in a tight space.
Is Professional Mattress Cleaning Worth It?
Usually, yes — when the mattress itself is still sound. If the support is good and what bothers you is surface soil, yellowing or a smell, cleaning is often the lower-cost option compared with replacement, and often makes a visible difference.
It's a harder case when the mattress is worn out. Cleaning freshens fabric and removes soil. It doesn't fix sagging, broken-down foam or a core that has lost its support, and it can't reverse permanent colour change. If you're on the fence, send photos and we can discuss the visible condition — but photos can't show support or sagging, so tell us how the mattress sleeps as well.
Cleaning vs Replacing: How Long Should a Mattress Last?
People often ask how long a $2,000 mattress should last. Price alone doesn't set a lifespan — materials, build quality and how the bed is used and cared for matter more than the number on the receipt. A well-made mattress that's protected and rotated according to the manufacturer's instructions can stay comfortable for many years; a neglected one can deteriorate sooner.
The useful question is what's actually wrong. Stains, smells and surface grime are cleaning questions. Sagging, lumps and waking up sore are support questions, and no cleaning answers those. If the mattress sleeps well but looks tired, cleaning is worth considering. If it sleeps badly, put the money toward replacement.
One Side or Both?
For most mattresses, one side — the side you sleep on — is where the soil is. Cleaning both sides makes sense for a two-sided mattress that's genuinely used on both sides, or when a spill or accident actually reached the underside. Rotating a mattress doesn't expose the underside, and whether a mattress should be flipped at all is up to its care label — many modern one-sided designs shouldn't be. For a newer mattress with a protected top, one side is usually enough, and we'll say so rather than sell you the larger job.
How Often Should a Mattress Be Cleaned?
There's no fixed rule. Many households have a mattress cleaned every year or two, or after a spill, an accident or an illness. A good washable mattress protector is the easiest way to stretch the interval, because body oils and perspiration land on the protector instead of the mattress.
How to Get an Accurate Quote
Send us:
- A photo of the whole mattress, plus close-ups of any stains or yellowed areas.
- The size, and whether you want one side or both cleaned.
- A photo of the care label, if you can find it.
- What caused the marks, if you know, and anything you've already tried on them.
- Your neighbourhood, so we can confirm availability.
Attach photos through the quote form with Mattress selected or our mattress cleaning service page, and we'll reply with a written price before anything is booked. Our guide to what a mattress cleaning appointment involves explains the process itself.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the ballpark price the final price?
No. The figures here are typical ranges for common jobs. Your written quote follows photos of the actual mattress, its size, condition and the areas you want cleaned.
Does the $100 minimum apply to one mattress?
The minimum applies to the whole order before tax. A single queen one-side cleaning usually exceeds it; a smaller job may not, in which case combining items is worth discussing.
Is it cheaper to clean or replace a mattress?
Cleaning costs far less than a new mattress, but it only makes sense when the mattress still sleeps well. Cleaning doesn't restore sagging or worn-out support.
Do you charge extra for stains or odours?
Heavier soiling and odour treatment take more time and product, so condition is part of the quote. That's why photos matter before we name a price.
